History
London’s West End has transformed massively over the years. The oldest theatre in West End which is still in use today is the Theatre Royal Dury Lane, opened in 1663 and has been a ‘royal favourite’ ever since its development. Steadily, more theatres started to call West End their home, including the Theatre Royal Haymarket opened in 1720, followed by the Adelphi Theatre in 1806. It was after the Theatres Act of 1843 which encouraged live performances, that London’s Theatreland was born.
