Military museums are always popular with those with an interest in war and combat and London is lucky enough to have one of the best in its class nestled in the heart of the city.

Anyone staying at the Montcalm London and wanting to discover more about the UK’s long and often turbulent military history through art, talks and engaging exhibitions should head over to the National Army Museum to check out what’s on offer this summer. Here is a selection of some of our favourite exhibitions that are well worth a visit while you’re there.

The art of persuasion: Wartime posters by Abram Games

One of the most visual exhibitions on offer this summer, the art of persuasion follows the career of Abram Games who was the official poster artist during the Second World War.

Following his career from soldier to artist, you’ll discover how his Jewish heritage influenced his work during the war years and catch a fascinating insight into Britain at war at the same time.

A must for those with an interest in graphic design, visitors will also see how the artist’s unique style influenced designers for years to come and revolutionised techniques that we still see in elements of graphic design to this day.

If you want to view this exhibition during your stay at the Montcalm Royal London House, take the Jubilee Tube line. It will have you at the museum in just under half an hour.

Death or glory: Famous cavalry charges

With a long history of conflict spanning centuries, this exhibition shows how famous cavalry charges could end either in glory or complete disaster dependant on the leadership skills of those fronting the charge.

From the Battle of Blenheim in 1704 to the Battle of the Mons in 1914, travel through time to find out more about some of the world’s most famous charges and why 1914 saw the end to this type of combat during your stay at our hotels near Finsbury Square.

Tank takeover

Bringing the whole family for a stay at the Montcalm London? Then the little ones will love the tank takeover interactive exhibition at the National Army Museum.

Both children and adults alike are invited to climb aboard the Churchill Mk VII to experience life as a tank crew in Normandy during the Second World War. It’s well worth seeking out this exhibit during your stay at the Montcalm Royal London House for a real experience of what life must have been like for those serving during the war.

Attention!

After a restful stay at our hotels near Finsbury Park, you’ll be full of energy and ready to take on a little military-style training at the Attention! interactive exhibition this summer.

A virtual Drill Sergeant on a huge screen will put you through your paces as you march, stand to attention and try your skills at about turns to prove that you are as disciplined as any serving soldier.
