There are many stylish exhibits on show at the V&A this month as is the norm for this leading creative venue, including plenty of great pieces from the world of international and domestic fashion and design. Regardless of whether you are a big fan of designer fashion or want to learn more about a major design brand, the following exhibitions at the V&A certainly underline why it remains the top destination for design in London…

Portmeiron: Pottery Trendsetter

Until 28th July 2019

Style isn’t only found in fashion, but in other creative arts, too – as proven by the Portmeiron exhibition showcasing the work of this Stoke-on-Trend brand. Ideal for browsing before heading to Hankies Marble Arch for a delicious meal, the exhibit looks at the ways in which innovation has thrived within this small ceramics brand, which includes iconic designs such as ‘Magic City’, ‘Totem’ and ‘Botanic Garden’. Many of the brand’s early rivals have not survived, yet Portmeiron is still thriving – more than six decades after it was initially founded. The exhibit is timed with the centenary of founder Susan Williams-Ellis, and provides a stunning snapshot of a British design classic.

Queen Victoria & Albert’s Bicentenary

Until 1st September 2019

Queen Victoria and Prince Albert may not be regarded as the most stylish of historical Royal couples, but this exhibition helps prove that Queen Victoria certainly had a keen understanding of the importance of image and ‘bling’! With a full-season of exhibitions and events planned throughout the Spring and Summer, this special celebration features pieces from Victoria’s jewellery collection, including her remarkable diamond coronet. If you’re enjoying a break at the Spa Montcalm, then this is a great way to engage with the styles of yesteryear whilst visiting London.

Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams

Until 1st September 2019

Fashion designer Christian Dior is one of the chicest names in the industry, and this exhibition is the perfect way to discover more about his work while staying at the Montcalm London. Whether an established fan or simply eager to learn more about a true living legend, Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams looks at the enduring influence of his work, as well as exploring the way his love of all things British has helped shape an iconic design aesthetic.

Mary Quant

Until 16th February 2020

The name Mary Quant has always been synonymous with fashion, and this pioneering figure has helped influence everything from miniskirts to hot pants in a career spanning decades. This new superstar exhibition explores Mary Quant’s influence over the fashion industry, including the styles of the 1960s for which she is most famous. The exhibit features more than 200 pieces from her own personal archive, and looks at the way Quant helped to create a true fashion revolution. Expect plenty of colourful pieces and impressive photography which helps bring the designs to vivid life for a new generation.
