Christmas is just around the corner, with families up and down the country preparing for the 2014 holiday season.
If you’d like to start your celebrations early this year, one way to get in the Xmas spirit is to visit the Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park. This one-stop shop of festive fun is packed with fun attractions, great food and drink, and various action-packed shows.
For many, the main attraction is the huge outdoor ice rink – the largest of its kind in Britain – surrounding Hyde Park’s Victorian bandstand. The rink is illuminated by 100,000 lights and live musicians serenade skaters as they glide (or wobble!) across the ice.
If skating isn’t your forte, there are plenty of other options for families visiting Winter Wonderland. The Magical Ice Kingdom offers a jaw-dropping journey through a multitude of ice and snow sculptures.
The giant observation wheel is a great way to get beautiful views of the whole park, with special VIP and private pods available for couples enjoying a romantic getaway. Rollercoasters, kids rides and Santa Land are just some of the other attractions that provide fun for all the family.
People planning a trip before Xmas can also benefit from some last-minute gift-shopping opportunities. Winter Wonderland’s Christmas markets have 200 fairylit Bavarian-style wooden huts to peruse for this year’s perfect stocking fillers.
After a few hours on your feet, chances are you’ll fancy stopping for something to eat and drink – and the Winter Wonderland doesn’t disappoint when it comes to festive food.
Mulled wine and farmhouse treats are on offer around the rustic fire pit, which offers 1970s music in the evenings. Bar Ice provides a more contemporary drinking hole, with the chairs, tables and walls all sculpted from frozen water.
Winter Wonderland opened its doors to the public earlier this month (November 21st), but there is plenty of time to plan a trip, as the attraction is in town until January 4th.
