Three Ways to Escape the Bustle of the City from Marble Arch

Even the most hardened and seasoned of city dwellers need to get away from the noise and activity of the city sometimes.

Part of London’s charm is that it’s always alive and buzzing, but sometimes you need to take five and find somewhere that offers a little serenity and relaxation. And, as one of the greenest capital cities in the world, London has a raft of spaces to choose from – with many in the Marble Arch area. And they’re all close by to the Montcalm Marble Arch, so you don’t have far to go for a little peace.

Kensington Gardens

Many people often confuse Kensington Gardens as part of Hyde Park, and that’s understandable because Kensington sits at the southern end of Hyde Park. But Kensington Gardens offers a beautiful oasis from the hustle of the city, and it’s a place more than worth seeking out.

Kensington Gardens are only a 15-minute walk from Montcalm Marble Arch, and here you can find immaculately tended gardens, sculptures, a whole mess of royal of history and, most importantly, relaxing surroundings.

The Gardens and their attendant palace were a favourite of Queen Victoria – she spent her formative years at the palace – and Kensington Gardens carry her unmistakable presence. Look out for the spectacular monument to Victoria’s departed husband Albert, and take some time to appreciate the calming, beautiful surroundings. And, if you want to round your day off in style, you’re only a short hop back to The Montcalm Bar.

Mount Street Gardens

One of the best things about Mount Street Gardens is that it truly is a hidden gem. Cloistered behind plush Victorian and Edwardian residential streets, Mount Street Gardens is the place to go if you want true peace and quiet. If you’re still in the mood for more relaxation, you’re only ten minutes from the luxurious Spa at Montcalm.

Mount Street Gardens isn’t the biggest green space in London, but it doesn’t need to be because it’s a perfectly manicured and tended place with lots of secluded spots perfect for taking up station and watching the world go by at a sedate pace. It’s a favourite spot for locals to get away from the hustle and bustle for a while, and it feels a world away from the constant activity of the city.

Norfolk Square Gardens

London parks don’t come more traditional or ‘London-esque’ than Norfolk Square Gardens.

While the park is very close to Paddington Mainline Station, it manages to act as an oasis of relaxation thanks to its design and surroundings. The overhanging trees and ornamental flowerbeds of Norfolk Square Gardens make the place feel and look bucolic and do a fantastic job of shielding you from the stresses of the city. It doesn’t hurt that gorgeous Victorian buildings enclose the space on all sides. Even though Norfolk Square Gardens only opened in 1990, it feels like a classic Victorian getaway spot.
