If you love live music, there are few better cities on earth to visit than London. The capital is full of venues large and small, offering all styles of music from the biggest superstars to emerging artists.

From the Montcalm Royal London House, you have the perfect base to access all the musical delights London has to offer- and August is a good month in this regard. So, if you’ve got a hankering for some live music, read on for our guide to the best live music this August.

Kasabian – O2 Academy Brixton

Leicester rockers Kasabian are out on the road and showing off their newest material, and this is your chance to see them in a medium-sized venue. And it’s just a stone’s throw from our many Montcalm London hotels.

Used to playing stadiums and arenas, Kasabian’s shows are always high-energy and more akin to a rave than a straight-up rock gig. This is probably because their formative influences like Primal Scream, Oasis and The Stone Roses  were all part of the nineties fusion of rock and rave, and some of it has worn off on Kasabian.

Kasabian has a big bag of hits to mix in with their new material, and their shows are always a fun, dance-inducing experience. Be prepared for lasers, lights and a healthy helping of foot-stomping rock.

The Joy Formidable – The Lexington

The Joy Formidable have been around for a few years now, pushing ahead with their own blend of epic rock music. Hailing from Wales, the trio makes a sound so layered and full that you’d think they have more members than they do – but that’s part of what makes them so great.

Often creating swirling and ethereal music with definable melodies, The Joy Formidable are like a perfect mix of My Bloody Valentine and The Cranberries. They can get loud, so it might be worth investing in some earplugs, but the three-piece are as tight a band as you’re likely to see and they could very well end up becoming a new favourite. The Lexington venue isn’t far from Montcalm Royal London House, so there’s no reason not to check out this excellent band.

Britney Spears – The O2

Bringing her extensive back catalogue to The O2, Britney shows are always big on spectacle and as professional as you might expect. The O2 is easy to get to from your Montcalm London hotel, and the show is one you won’t want to miss.

But this doesn’t mean a remote, by-the-num
bers performance, Britney Spears has always been a master at bridging the gap between audience and performer, and her ‘Piece of Me’ tour will be no different.

As much as seeing Spears is about the fantastic pop hits – and they’re all here – it’s also about taking in the over-the-top staging and choreography. Expect elaborate, sometimes bizarre, costumes, laser shows and pyrotechnics, all backed up by some of the best pop ever recorded.
