With warm, summer nights and beautiful sunsets to take in, outdoor cinemas are one of the biggest highlights of the season in London. Perhaps that’s why the city has plenty of them on offer, in some of the most unique and stunning locations.

If you’re staying in the Montcalm Hotel London, take the time to venture out to one of the city’s silver screen gems beneath the stars, for a truly memorable experience of London.

But, with summer soon (too soon…) coming to a close, it’s time to make the most of those beautiful evenings, with some extra special screenings. Read on to find out more about your last chance to catch an open-air film in the city and book now!

The Nomad Cinema

Combining classic cinema with social action, the Nomad Cinema is a great way of doing something positive for others whilst having a great time.

The group puts on special screenings of old favourites and contemporary films in fun and surprising locations across the city while at the same time donating all of their distributive profits to charity. Their screenings have helped support a variety of great causes, from providing school meals and uniforms to organising solar power and water management systems in communities.

This year, they’ll be closing off their season of outdoor cinema with a special screening of Bohemian Rhapsody, in Queen’s Park. Fancy dress is definitely encouraged to help you get into the spirit of the musical blockbuster, and all attendees will get a free coffee to warm up if it’s a little cool!

Bohemian Rhapsody is on Saturday 7th September, with doors opening at 6pm.

The Luna Cinema

The Luna Cinema is one of the leaders in outdoor film screenings and is renowned for putting out crowd-pleasing classics, in some of the most fantastic locations around the city. The result is a night full of magical atmosphere, as you immerse yourself in the world of cinema, with a stunning backdrop around you.

You’ll be able to catch some of the biggest hits of the year this summer, in the beautiful surroundings of the Regent’s Park open-air theatre. The summer’s offerings include Mary Poppins Returns and A Star is Born, with films being screened against the magical backdrop of the park’s magnificent trees.

Film screenings start at 8 PM and run every Sunday until September 8th. Be aware that as with outdoor event in the summer, you might need an extra layer to keep you warm on slightly cooler nights, and it’s also worth bringing a comfortable blanket to sit on.

Pop Up Screens

With special outdoor film screenings held all over London’s many parks, a Pop Up Screens event is one of the best ways to make the most of summer in the city. The brand features pop up events all over London, and if you’re staying in the Montcalm Royal London House, then you’ll find some great shows on offer close by, held at the Guildhall.

There’s something for everyone on offer, from the classic sci-fi adventure hit, Back to the Future, to sweet romantic comedies and children’s films. You’ll be given a deck chair to enjoy the film from, and there is plenty of hot and cold food and drink on-site to enjoy, but it can be just as much fun to pack your own picnic, to dine beneath the stars.

Afterwards, head across towards The Aviary London, where you can continue the outdoor magic beneath the night sky, in the stylish rooftop bar.

Film 4 Summer Screen at Somerset House

In the stylish surroundings of Somerset House, you’ll get to take in one of the most luxurious outdoor film events in London. The riverside palace is always worth a visit, but during summer evenings, the expansive Fountain Court is transformed into a magical open-air cinema, with the largest screen available in the city.

Somerset House’s summer film screenings are about more than just the movie – you’ll often find special features that make the night even more memorable. This year, you can relax in style to live music and guest DJ performances, with specially curated playlists inspired by the night’s movie. And as the site for so many blockbuster films itself, you can even take a special tour around the palace, to find out more about

To make things even more luxurious, you can enjoy a little more comfort with your movie experience, with the option to have an indulgent bean bag to sit on, with a delicious picnic hamper or three-course dinner, while you watch. It’s the perfect option for a special date night or get together with friends, but book ahead as it can often sell out.

For a truly breathtaking experience, head to their special screening of The Piano on August 20th, which will be accompanied by a live classical music performance from the contemporary pianist, Shida Shahabi.

Rooftop Film Club at the Queen of Hoxton

Fancy a night of old school film magic, with some of the biggest cult favourites on screen, surrounded by the incredible sight of the London skyline? Just a short walk away from the Brewery London, you’ll find the unique club, Queen of Hoxton, which is one of the fantastic venues in the city, selected by the international outdoor film phenomenon, the Rooftop Film Club. Choosing the best rooftop locations in the biggest cities around the world, the RFC provides great films with stunning panoramic views and city backdrops, for a truly memorable night out.

Choose from classic 90s romance, with the London-themed hit film, Notting Hill, or get into the musical spirit with the celebrated Freddie Mercury biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody.
