It has been revealed that around 14 per cent of all selfies are taken in the capital, which stands as a testament to the incredible array of attractions in the city that often act as a backdrop to the photographs.
Among the most popular destinations to take a selfie are Big Ben and the London Eye, both of which are iconic tourist destinations.
New York and Amsterdam were in second and third place respectively, according to the research, which comprised analysis of 6.3million social media messages.
