Not only is London the capital of the UK, but this dynamic and fascinating city has also been named the selfie capital of the world.

The title comes on the back of research conducted across a variety of different social networking sites, including Twitter and Facebook.

It has been revealed that around 14 per cent of all selfies are taken in the capital, which stands as a testament to the incredible array of attractions in the city that often act as a backdrop to the photographs.

Among the most popular destinations to take a selfie are Big Ben and the London Eye, both of which are iconic tourist destinations.

New York and Amsterdam were in second and third place respectively, according to the research, which comprised analysis of 6.3million social media messages.

So, if you’ve got a trip to the capital planned for the coming months, which of the top landmarks should you make the time to see?

Well, of course the obvious answer is all of them. However, if you’re only staying for a few days and don’t have the time necessary to squeeze them all in, here are a few recommendations.

St Paul’s Cathedral is among the most recognisable features of the London skyline and no trip to the capital is complete without taking the time to enjoy this amazing piece of architecture.

It was designed by Sir Christopher Wren and remains one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city.

Meanwhile, you may also wish to take a trip to the O2 Arena in Greenwich, which is widely considered to be among the best indoor arenas in the world.

Some of the biggest and best stars play here throughout the year – and you’re also within reachable distance of the various accommodation options the Montcalm Hotels have to offer.
