London is busy gearing itself up for Christmas, with the iconic tree of Trafalgar Square having recently been erected and the lights of Oxford Street illuminating one of the world’s most famous avenues.
This Saturday (December 14th), however, saw something slightly more unusual, as throngs of people dressed as Santa Claus and elves descended on the city centre in an effort to get into the festive spirit.
The group came from all over the city to drink and sing Christmas-themed songs – and they certainly made their presence felt.
The event, which formed part of Santacon 2013, was mirrored in around 300 cities across the world, with thousands of people determined to enjoy a memorable Christmas this year.
So, if you are in London this Christmas, what is there that you can see and do to mark the festive season?
Well, firstly, it probably ought to be mentioned that the city is an absolute paradise for shoppers. Oxford Street, for instance, is home to all of the best high street stores, where you’re sure to find some absolute bargains.
Conversely, you could head to one of the many Christmas markets that are dotted around the capital. Here, you’ll find plenty of great little bits and pieces that could be the perfect filler for your stocking.
The most famous of these is, perhaps, located down on the South Bank and is sure to be a hive of activity at this time.
Finally, how about taking the time to skate on one of the ice rinks that are erected in London? There are rinks in Canary Wharf, Somerset House and Hampton Court, among others.
